Welcome to the MUHSD 2021 Summer Institute, Virtual Edition
The Merced Union High School District Summer Institute 2021 will take place:
August 2-3 from 9:00AM-3PM on Zoom

To REGISTER for this amazing conference: 
  1. Create a free account in Sched and 
  2. Select your sessions 
Sessions
Select only the sessions that interest you. Earn up to 10 hours of extra compensation (total) for the two days.

Participants will not be compensated for any time in which they leave a session early.  

Pay for Service Contracts
BEFORE THE EVENT: More info will be coming out in the weeks (by email and here on the event website) before this event on how to complete a digital Pay For Service Contract to be compensated

DUIRNG THE EVENT:  Look in the session’s description online (Log in to Sched) for the session’s feedback form.  Submit the FEEDBACK FORM for every session you attend.  Providing feedback for each session is directly tied to earning compensation for the session. Submitting the form is REQUIRED in order to be paid. While we are collecting names/emails to track attendance, your name/email will not be disclosed to the presenter.

To sum up: Complete a digital Pay For Service Contract and provide feedback at the end of each session attended. Following those steps is how you’ll be compensated for your time at the Summer Institute.

Devices
Participants should be logging in for sessions using a fully-charged device (chromebook, laptop) to be prepared for active participation. Cell phone only will not suffice.

Feedback for Reading and Writing

Building Student Confidence with Self-Assessments
Learning partnerships between students and teachers provide clarity and allow students to know how they are progressing towards their learning goals.  When a student is able to assess their level of engagement and learning their confidence builds as they own the process.

Student Choice In Learning & Assessment
Participants will experience using a "choiceboard" for their learning on Universal Design for Learning and then create their own choiceboard for an upcoming assignment.  Participants will leave with several pre-made choiceboards that are ready to use.

4 Point/Mastery-based Grading
In this session I will explain how I use Mastery-based grading (Or standards-based), why I think it is beneficial in my classroom. I will show you how I set up my aeries and how I grade using a 4 point scale. I have been doing this for 3 years now and have seen how it has benefited my students.
